Meet Justin Carlson

Justin Carlson is a long time Lincoln resident and was born and raised in District 3.  He attended Prescott Elementary, Irving Middle School and Lincoln High School.  He then attended the University of Nebraska graduating with a Business degree.  Justin worked for State Farm Insurance for nearly 10 years and then as a Financial Advisor for 9 years.  He has worked at the University of Nebraska Foundation for the past 7 years as Director of Development focusing on the College of Engineering.

Justin is married to Liz Ring Carlson and they have 3 children who currently attend Lincoln Southeast, Irving Middle School and Sheridan Elementary. 

Community service and volunteering have always been a part of Justin’s life.  He has served in a number of volunteer positions over the past 25 years.  Some organizations include the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Advisory Board where he has served for the past 14 years including two terms as Chairman.  He is also currently secretary of the Lincoln Parks Foundation board of directors and has served on that board for several years.  Previously he served on the board of the Community Services Fund of Nebraska, has been a longtime volunteer with Leadership Lincoln and a graduate of the Leadership Lincoln Fellows program (Class 20).  Justin is a former Chairman of the Lancaster County Democratic Party and has been recognized for his political activity receiving the Kathleen Fahey Award from the Nebraska Democratic Party and the Lancaster County Democrats Patriot Award.  Justin served as spokesperson and treasurer for the recent “Decline to Sign” initiative which fought against the recent recall efforts of several city council members and Mayor Gaylor Baird.  Justin is former long-time President of the Country Club Neighborhood association and previously served on the Near South Neighborhood Board of Directors. He has been a youth basketball coach for 9 years and currently serves as the Reserve Booster parent for the Lincoln Southeast Girls Basketball team.  Justin and his family attend Blessed Sacrament Church and he volunteers on the grounds crew and with fundraising efforts.

In his free time Justin enjoys spending time with family, fishing, reading and keeping up with his busy kids.
